I read this to my children ages 7-11 as part of our homeschool curriculum study about Ancient Egypt. The story was very well written. My children begged me to read it every day until we were finished. It starts out slow as it develops the characters and setting in the book; but my children nor I ever got bored. It teaches character values along with the history and descriptions. The story described Ancient Egyptian culture, landscaping, and beliefs in such detail that you almost felt like you were there. I would recommend this book to all ages from 7-90.

We bought this as a read-aloud book to compliment our The Good and The Beautiful History curriculum and I REALLY love the story. the complexity, the language, the history and the morals being taught are amazing, but having kids all under 8 I felt like this book was hard to get through because it was SO advanced. I LOVE had TGATB stretches me and my kids and expect more and learn from advanced language and literature, but I really think they will enjoy and take this in more in a few years. I spend about 1/4 of the time explaining things or retelling in language they can understand.

Hello I'm age ten years. I LOVE fiction books. This book is about a boy named Ranofer who wants to be a goldsmith. But his evil half brother (Gebu) won't have it. Ranofer gets a friend named Heqet. Gebu is a stonecutter. Later on Gebu does something BAD!!!!!! You have to read the book to find out what. Ranofer is asked what he wants. He can have anything in the empire. What does he pick? You guess. In this book the author's point was (I think) don't steal.

I used this as a literature assignment for my 6th grader studying Ancient Egypt. It helped bring the time period alive and make his historical studies more interesting. A little encouragement was needed at the beginning of the book, but by the middle of the book the excitement of the plot had been built up, and the characters held my student's attention. He was excited to read the second half. He would say it was an interesting book if you have to read historical fiction instead of the fantasy genre, like Dragon Run or Fablehaven. For any parents or teachers concerned with trauma sensitive curriculum, there is some child neglect and some physical abuse such as withholding food, beatings and lashes. It was not overly violent detailed or gruesome though.

It did take little man and I a few chapters to really get into the book, but once we got to Chapter 3, we were hooked! The story just continues to get better through the chapters. I liked the "feel" the author gave us of ancient Egyptian times; little man liked the mystery and the detective work done by Ranofer and his friends. Highly recommend!

Follows the paperback very well. The book is part of my daughter's reading assignment and when reading she sometimes struggles with pronunciation of non-English words in the book. I allow her to listen and read along then she can skim back over the chapters for a "smoother read". The audio and text are a great match. Plus, it's a classic must read for all kids in my opinion.

I pre-read this book recently to decide whether it was worthy of being part of our Ancient Civilizations homeschooling curriculum. What an awesome story, with so many lessons about integrity and character in the face of hardship and deprivation. I cannot wait to share it with my sons this fall as we study Ancient Egypt. I will add more to this review once I get their reactions.

We homeschool, and read this book every 3 years when we study ancient history. It’s our family’s favorite historical novel. We got the audio for a car trip. I finally had to take it off of my 10-year old son’s device so he’d get his chores done. He says he listened to it at least 10 times!

Winger was a heartwarming story about letting go and opening yourself to new things, stepping out of your comfort zone. At least that is what it was for both Warren and Jeannine. Both independent (her more so than him), strong willed and determined to live a single life forever, with no commitments. A one night stand leads them down a road neither of them expected. It was nice to see them navigate it together, and Kudos to Warren for stepping up and being a wonderful Man about it all. The only issue I had, and I think it is due to personal reasons, I did not like how Jeannine kept insisting she would do it on her own and she did not want Warren to be in their lives. A lot of women out there do not get that choice, there are men who walk away and never look back. To see Warren wanting to be responsible and her being stubborn about it was off putting. I know, I know... she was protecting herself, not necessarily the baby if you think about it. She did not want to get hurt and was using the baby as an excuse. At least that was my take from it.Anyway, I revert back to my initial statement this was a heartwarming and lovely story.

I really enjoyed this book. It had the same flow as the first two books in the series, but was different in its own right. If you love alphas who are sweet and strong for their woman, you’ll love this story, too.Warren and Jeannine fight their feelings, making this a slow burn, but it so worth the wait. This adventure of a story definitely makes me want to keep reading the series and more books from this author!

I read this in half a day! I was totally hooked. Warren is a really ladies man, but all you will get from him is one night. Then after a year of talking and flirting Warren and Nine hook up and BOOM Samantha Whiskey brings her writing to life and makes this book hot, funny and impossible to put down. I love Nine and how strong willed she is and Warren is just a big teddy bear. LOVE THIS SERIES!!!

Hot, hot, hot....and no birth control is the "really good kind."Warren and Jeanine run in circle of friends...they are the one who aren't paired up.They have a hot night of unprotected sex and Jeanine ends up pregnant.I liked that Jeanine was strong and had her own thing, she wasn't needy or clingy.I liked that Warren was ready to step up.Recommend.

I received an arc of this book for an honest review. This book is Jeannine and Warren’s story. I loved the story but I will say it’s not my favorite Shark book. I loved how Warren stepped up but these were to very independent people and have trouble asking for help. I like how all 3 women found men who were friends just like they are. Looking forward to the next installment in the Seattle Sharks series.

Jeanine has been a favorite character throughout this series so far. Her sassy attitude reminds me of myself...lol! Her and Warren were a very passionate couple riddled with misunderstanding and it was great watching them muddle through. Their story was very entertaining.

Fluffy romance about two stubborn people who end up with their happy ending. Still slow and no real angst and I knew not to expect any mystery. I think I will stop reading the series and come back later to finish.

Wow can't get enough of these guys. They all rock. Warren found his soulmate when he wasn't looking. She was so hard on herself that he really had to prove himself. They had ups and downs but worked it out. Great book's

I have had to keep in mind that it was written more than 50 years ago, because some of the cultural aspects are disturbing to someone from 2016--the native people are definitely 2nd class and taken advantage of, but that is the reality of history. There is nothing about interpersonal conflicts within the group, but lots of battling the elements, and rather nasty frostbite operations.

March 7, 2013Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI love true adventure stories. Annapurna is a true adventure story of a French 1950 mountain climbing expedition. Two of their members are the first to reach the summit of a 8000M peak. Unheard of, many thought it could not be done. Annapurna is the epic book that influenced ED Vestures when he was a boy toward his mountain climbing greatness ( climbed all 13 8000M peaks with no supplemental oxygen...all his books 5 star see my reviews).Annapurna is 278 pages of great adventure and lots of action. No boring parts. I read it in 3 days.Here's a tidbit of the book to wet your appetite.A group of some of the greatest mountain climbers is assembled with a great doctor/surgeon Oudot, and support people for the expedition. Local loyal helpers/guides called Sherpas and Coolies to help carry the heavy loads are hired. The leaders Sahibs have as their expedition leader Maurice Herzog. Herzog is seen as brave but sensibly cautious and uses lots of scouting of different routes. A higher mountain was originally thought OK to climb but it is found too dangerous at this time. Scouting more through glaciers around impassable ridges , a hidden valley a route to Annapurna is found. Already they are experiencing bad weather and are in a race with time as Monsoon rains are coming soon. Some routes are found to be no good. Lots of dangers, crevasses, and avalanches. Five ascending camps are set up. The expedition is rapidly breaking down due to health problems.Herzog and Louise Lachenal make it to the top. All expedition members helped and team work was great. A lot of unselfish people. However Herzog loses his gloves and develops frostbite of the fingers and toes. Lachenal has frostbite of the toes and heal. Some of the others have snow blindness and injuries. The expedition physically is a mess They must hurry to a lower camp for the doctor Oudot to try to save them. Gangrene has set in. Toes and fingers must be amputated.There is a great chapter of the expedition's passage from Nepal to India and meeting the Maharajah in his palace.I won't say too much more and ruin the book for you.Anyone loving true adventure stories and human endurance against incredible obstacles will love this book. This book was the one that many great climbers got their inspiration from. 5 stars and proudly added to our family library.

Ed told me, during our climb, this was the book that inspired him to dedicate his life to mountaineering and becoming the first American to summit all 14 of the 8,000K summits in the world without supplemental oxygen. Being a novice mountaineer myself, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I found the book to be well written and extremely thoughtful. Today, when most mountaineering books are written as "tell-all" accounts of an expedition, I found this book to be refreshing because it was more about the experience of conquering the mountain than it was about airing dirty laundry about the participants. This particular climb still amazes me, because this team of explorers summited Annapurna (an extremely difficult and demanding mountain) on their first attempt. This book is about courage, determination, perseverance and dedication. This is a must read if you are the least bit interested in mountaineering.

Very well written, lots of adventure. I have had to keep in mind that it was written more than 50 years ago, because some of the cultural aspects are disturbing to someone from 2016--the native people are definitely 2nd class and taken advantage of, but that is the reality of history. There is nothing about interpersonal conflicts within the group, but lots of battling the elements, and rather nasty frostbite operations.

I love true adventure stories. Annapurna is a true adventure story of a French 1950 mountain climbing expedition. Two of their members are the first to reach the summit of a 8000M peak. Unheard of, many thought it could not be done. Annapurna is the epic book that influenced ED Vestures when he was a boy toward his mountain climbing greatness ( climbed all 13 8000M peaks with no supplemental oxygen...all his books 5 star see my reviews).Annapurna is 278 pages of great adventure and lots of action. No boring parts. I read it in 3 days.Here's a tidbit of the book to wet your appetite.A group of some of the greatest mountain climbers is assembled with a great doctor/surgeon Oudot, and support people for the expedition. Local loyal helpers/guides called Sherpas and Coolies to help carry the heavy loads are hired. The leaders Sahibs have as their expedition leader Maurice Herzog. Herzog is seen as brave but sensibly cautious and uses lots of scouting of different routes. A higher mountain was originally thought OK to climb but it is found too dangerous at this time. Scouting more through glaciers around impassable ridges , a hidden valley a route to Annapurna is found. Already they are experiencing bad weather and are in a race with time as Monsoon rains are coming soon. Some routes are found to be no good. Lots of dangers, crevasses, and avalanches. Five ascending camps are set up. The expedition is rapidly breaking down due to health problems.Herzog and Louise Lachenal make it to the top. All expedition members helped and team work was great. A lot of unselfish people. However Herzog loses his gloves and develops frostbite of the fingers and toes. Lachenal has frostbite of the toes and heal. Some of the others have snow blindness and injuries. The expedition physically is a mess They must hurry to a lower camp for the doctor Oudot to try to save them. Gangrene has set in. Toes and fingers must be amputated.There is a great chapter of the expedition's passage from Nepal to India and meeting the Maharajah in his palace.I won't say too much more and ruin the book for you.Anyone loving true adventure stories and human endurance against incredible obstacles will love this book. This book was the one that many great climbers got their inspiration from. 5 stars and proudly added to our family library.

I purchased this book after summiting Mt. Rainier with Ed Viesturs. Ed told me, during our climb, this was the book that inspired him to dedicate his life to mountaineering and becoming the first American to summit all 14 of the 8,000K summits in the world without supplemental oxygen. Being a novice mountaineer myself, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I found the book to be well written and extremely thoughtful. Today, when most mountaineering books are written as "tell-all" accounts of an expedition, I found this book to be refreshing because it was more about the experience of conquering the mountain than it was about airing dirty laundry about the participants. This particular climb still amazes me, because this team of explorers summited Annapurna (an extremely difficult and demanding mountain) on their first attempt. This book is about courage, determination, perseverance and dedication. This is a must read if you are the least bit interested in mountaineering.

A marvelous window into early Himalayan climbing. One would laugh at the primitive equipment, the false maps, and the disappearing mountains if the stakes hadn't been so high (life or death). Eventually the French team finds Annapurna, but the weather threatens to end the attempt. A thrilling account.

A classic review by a humble man, not focused on his own superlative abilities but on the unselfish tenacity of both him and his equally qualified teammates, the key word being teammates. Without fanfare he relates a most amazing story of truly dedicated, tough mountaineers. This is not for the reader that leans toward soap opera but for one that values looking into lives that displayed unadorned courage.

Great book - it's hard to put down once you start it. The fact that these guys were climbing without all the modern day equipment is extremely impressive!
