This is an inspirational story about normal people, who when faced with a horrible fate showed that they could rise above it and show us what genuine heroism really is. While it deals with a complex disease, the writer carefully explains its aspects in language that most anyone can understand and appreciate.

I read about this book in our Sunday paper and ordered it after reading an excerpt included in the article. I found the book fascinating. Interesting mix of science and human interest. If You don't care about the science, you can skip those chapters and still be captivated by the story.

A spellbinding story of a family caught in the web of a fatal genetic disease. Well written and intentional in content. It made me thankful my children do not have to have their lives suspended like Amanda's family does.

A fantastic telling of a horrible story and a horrible disease. It takes real guts to share this experience and Gina does a great job of weaving the narrative in a way that keeps you reading. It was hard to put down.

Absolutely one of the most inspiring biographies I ever read. Right in my hometown.

Always knew I was living a dream And then I read this. It makes me even more grateful and aware of good health.

If I could rate this book a 10, I would. This is honestly the best book I have read in quite sometime. It is an incredibly personal and honest look into a family's life dealing with a devastating and terminal hereditary disease that few doctors know anything about. And how their journey has led them to do anything and everything they can to fight back, no matter how diffult or controversial it may be.

I enjoyed this book vey much it was a quick read and was of interest to me as a former Medical Lab tech.It is the story of how a genetic anomaly passed on for many generations affected a small town family in the South.It is also the struggle of how one young woman dealt with this disease .A very good and absorbing medical mystery.

BAD KINDLE EDITIONAlthough the text inside this book is valuable and well written'''''''''', the publishing company obviously does not care about quality and ease of use - only money. ''There are only location points and no page numbers. It wastes HOURS of studying time spent in the school library referencing search terms (that might work - that is trial and error too) to replace the page numbers our teachers very reasonably put in the syllabus. It is a waste of the teachers' time to figure out freaking location points for an eBook that the publishing company should have put in before Kindle Release if they were even halfway competent. LWW isnt even competent enough to have a website with a working call button on their front page, and bad formatting elsewhere.I am left with the options of wasting valuable time, or falling behind in my required reading because this process is a pain the nuisance, or reading at the school library, which is free...but the text is inconsistently available.I don't plan on purchasing another LWW text. They can fix their problem while I *hope* my school library has a copy on hand every time I need it.

Most of my massage school books were full of fluff, with very little actual content. This book is jam packed with useful information, and it's only fault is that it might be too dense to read cover to cover. Think of it as more of a reference book, where you'll read a section about a topic that is of particular interest to you, or a few pages on a topic that you're covering in class. Overall, a great text, and a good start if you're a massage hobbiest that's looking to move into the professional realm.

Clearly written. Well organized. Easy to understand. Also serves as an informative reference book throughout a massage practioner's career. Most notably, this book highlights relevant recent changes in massage documentation and practice that have transpired over the past two decades. A must have for all masseuses - new & seasoned.

As a massage student, this book is one of the most used textbooks we have. It contains so much information about pretty much everything you deal with as a massage therapist. Hydrotherapy, dual relationships, business, etc.

True to its title "But Enough About Me" Burt Reynolds doesn't divulge too much about himself in his book. It has tid bits here and there about his family particularly his strict father who was in the military before becoming the chief of police of a small town in southern Florida near Miami and Burt's desire to make his father proud of his son "Buddy" as he was then called. For the longest time, his father didn't think acting was a "real" job. He also writes about his school years and his love of sports growing up, his years acting on stage and his stunt work before and after becoming a move actor.I would not call this book a true memoir since the author chose to write mostly about people that he has encountered in his life, some in his personal life but mostly in his professional life and how some of them effected him. He actually has whole chapters devoted to each person that he chose to write about. I found some of the chapters really interesting, particularly the chapter on Dinah Shore (they had a romantic relationship for several years) but they never made it to the altar. He speaks of Dinah in a warm and loving way and what a great person she was, was loved by everyone, what a wonderful cook she was and would cook for anyone at all hours of the day and night.I also found interesting the chapter on Sally Field, how he insisted to have her in the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" since he thought she would be perfect for the part even though at first Universal didn't want to use her because the studio didn't think she was "sexy enough" (she had previously played The Flying Nun in her own TV sitcom) and how much sexual chemistry they had with each other from the day they met at rehearsal. They ended up becoming an item for a few years and making several movies together. The biggest surprise for me was that he writes in his book that he wishes he could turn back the clock, that he's sorry he never told her he loved her and he's sorry they couldn't make their relationship work. They spoke about marriage, but one wasn't ready when the other one was and vice versa. According to Burt, it's the biggest regret of his life.There's also an interesting chapter on his ex-wife Loni Anderson. They were married for only five years. In this book Burt writes that he doesn't even know why he married her as they are very different from each other and admits that he wasn't thinking at the time and that she was the aggressive type, she came on to him and was very determined to get him. But he writes he had his doubts about her even before he made the marital commitment. He portrays her as being money hungry and spent a lot of his money during their short lived marriage (while married to each other they adopted a baby boy, Quinton). He regrets not listening to the others' advise and his own gut instinct not to marry her.There are also other interesting chapters on Spencer Tracy, Bette Davis, Roy Rogers, Frank Sinatra and Clint Eastwood just to name a few. He also writes that he regrets posing nude in the magazine "Cosmopolitan" centerfold since he feels it affected his acting career in a negative way as he wanted to be considered "a serious actor", he wishes he would have listened to people that advised him against doing it. There's also an interesting foreword written by his friend Jon Voight (Burt met Jon while making the movie Deliverance and writes in this book some really interesting things about making that movie). So, he has a few regrets (don't we all) but has lived a very full and interesting life! If you like to read about Hollywood and its stars, you will enjoy this book!

You get the Real Burt Reynolds here. All his mistakes, all his goofiness, all his kindness, all this successes and failures. This book is like you're sitting around a patio in Florida and Reynolds is just telling his story. Sometimes I wish he'd told more about some people in his life, but maybe he had to edit for length.How a Florida jock became an actor was a very good story. And how he occasionally shot himself out of the saddle adds depth. His loves and his need to find acceptance are quite touching.I recommend this book. But it's a quarter to three a.m. and I just finished. Don't start this book if you have somewhere to be; at places it's hard to put down.

When I read that Burt Reynolds died, I was saddened by the thought that I grew up with him and now he was gone. Anyway, I looked around to see what I could read about him and saw that he released a book in 2015. This book is a wealth of information about his life as a troublemaker in high school and his ascendancy to the top of the box office as an actor.This book is a great read because it's like having Reynolds talk to you in his backyard about his life from childhood to age 78 or 79 when he co-wrote the book. He lived for another 3 years before he passed away 2 weeks ago.His movies were not the most cerebral. Like he said in the book, he liked to have fun and that's what he wanted in life and it showed.I saw Smokey and the Bandit again a week ago and boy, I remember the fun I had seeing it as a younger man! I wanted to be like him!All in all, Burt's life was the stuff of legend. Not many guys can brag like Reynolds did and not get called on their stories. However, Burt did all that he wrote in the book and it was all true. What a guy!Rest in Peace, Buddy!

Mr. Reynolds is a great story teller, I've seen him on countless talk shows over the years talking about various friends in the entertainment industry and sharing anecdotes about filming on location.The fact that his career bridges the older generation of "Movie Stars" - with capital M and S - as well as his own generation of stars and then those that came even later gives him a rare perspective. This book provides some great stories but at the same time it seems to be just sort of hitting the highlights with not much depth. I'm not referring to salacious or scandalous material, it just seems that so many long time friends of Burt Reynolds's, like Dom Deluise, Charles Durning, and others are given a few quick pages then left behind. I realize you can't cover everything but at times the information seems a bit thin.My only real negative critique is the way Loni Anderson is treated in this book. Mr. Reynolds seems more than a little mean spirited towards her... I get it. Bad breakups are tough to get past but I almost wish he would have just made a brief blanket statement along the lines of "Loni has her version, I have mine, they differ greatly. Enough said."Bottom line: Burt Reynolds shares some fun stories about his career and a few of his famous friends. It's kind of like having a chance conversation with someone on a long trip, you end up hearing things you probably didn't expect to hear but nothing particularly shocking or too in depth. Recommended for any fan of Burt Reynolds.

I have many very good books on Landscape techniques, this is one of the very best. For both beginners and more advanced. So often the books do not get down to the fundamentals with brush or actual applications, this one does. Plus, I love her work. Highly recommend. I have been painting for two years.

There are so many art books it's hard to decide which to buy, especially if you can't see the contents, and most of them generally cover the same topics. But I took a chance on this one and really like the way the author presents art concepts: materials, composition and design, tonal value, color and light, techniques, and demonstrations. I think painting is mostly about doing, and I didn't really want a lot of theory, but l learned a lot and it gave me useful ideas and techniques I could really use. She also has lots of step-by-step demonstrations, AND I actually like the style of the painting examples. It's a smaller, high-quality book. I found it surprisingly useful (and not too much text).

This book was recommended by one of my art instructors. So much good information on products and painting techniques. I have many notes and tabs in this book and refer to it frequently. Lots of full color painting to demonstrate the author's suggestions for composition, tonal value, color and light and various techniques. I highly recommend this book for any beginning or intermediate painter.

Of the 63 art books in my library, this is the best I've run into. It's to the point with skilled illustrations. By isolating one principle at a time and giving examples, it makes it easy for the reader to grasp the issue. It also isn't full of self-serving comments. Too many art books go into the soul searching and emotional aspect of painting. But not all people the same feelings, and this makes the verbiage unnecessary.Another plus is the binding. The ring binding means you don't have to crack the book spine to keep it open.This book is perfect for the artist who wants to-the-point instruction that includes problem solving. I'm recommending it to the students in my classes. Frankly, it's the best I've seen.

After reading very involved, detailed books like Albala and Schmid and McPhearson, it is a nice change to have a book that is easyto read, reference and I love love love the spiral - You can open it and use it as you paint - I do believe the other books I mentioned should be read for the depth of information but after you do that this book gives you an easy reference to review the informationAdd it to any oil painters library for sure!

It is most helpful in all aspects of teaching how to accomplish the finished product of what I am striving to produce. Bhutan is such a special country that I needed a small guide to take with me, and this covers everything I could want. It is tricky to get into the country and you need an "official" tour company and this is explained in detail so there are no surprises. Plan way ahead as the paperwork takes time - your agency does this for you. The maps are very good as are descriptions of sites; the "20 top experiences" with photos at the beginning will send you in the right direction. The survival guide in the back is thorough and answers any question you could think of. Once again, a terrific Lonely Planet guide (I have tons).

Due to the recent "opening" of Bhutan, there have been few travel books on the country. This LP is about as good as you are going to get at this time. It is often dated in hotel information, but that is understandable.Unless are an Indian citizen, you must be escorted by a travel guide most of the time. This leaves you little room to roam alone. However, it is nice to be able to tell your guide that you want to see or visit a certain place. This book educates you enough to be able to discuss some of these places intelligently with your guide or travel agent.

I couldn't find any travel guide books locally on Bhutan. Since the tour I will be taking in November includes hotels and meals this book was fine for my needs even though it is not the latest edition. I was looking for background info on Bhutan and general travel info.

I bought this guide before my first trip to Bhutan, and it helped me immensely in planning my tour. It contains detailed information about the country--history, culture, geography, and facts for travelers. And it gives accurate information about the trekking routes and cultural tours. As is typical for Lonely Planet publications, this one is interesting and well written, and I found the information to be relevant to my trip. It is not easy to travel to Bhutan (there are many government restrictions), and this book made everything easier. I had such a successful, fun trip that I've been back several times ([...] and I still refer to this edition of the guide. It's packed with good information, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to go to Bhutan.

An excellent source for negotiating your tour. You can not go to Bhutan without a tour guide (required for the visa unless you are a citizen of India). So you can not make use to travel through Bhutan on your own, but a very good history of the country helps you understand and tour companies are flexible for your itinerary.

In anticipation of a trip to Bhutan in 2008 I was looking for a travel guide and opted to buy Lonely Planet's. I read it cover to cover and found to contain very good information, advice, tips, descriptions, recommendations, etc. I travel extensively worldwide and Bhutan will be a novel adventure. It brings back memories of my trip to Tibet in 2000. I highly recommend this guide.
