About the Author

Born in London, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (1797-51) was the daughter of William Godwin, a noted social theorist, and Mary Wollstonecraft, one of the leading literary women of the day. Her mother died soon after her birth, and Mary was raised first under the care of servants, then by a stepmother, and finally in the rarefied intellectual atmosphere of her father’s circle. In May 1814, she met Percy Bysshe Shelley and, in July of the year, moved with him to the Continent. Two years later, after the death of Shelley’s wife, the poet and Mary were able to wed. It was in Switzerland in 1816, as a result of a story-writing competition among the Shelleys and Lord Byron, that Mary began Frankenstein, her first and most famous novel. Published in 1818, it was followed by such works as Valperga (1823), The Last Man (1826), and Falkner (1837). In 1822, after the death of her husband, she devoted herself to the upbringing of her son and the securing of his right to the Shelley family title.Bram Stoker (1847-1912) was born in Dublin. After attending Dublin University, he spent ten years as an Irish civil servant, trying to keep up his writing in his free time. By 1871, he had become the drama critic for the Dublin Mail and had gained experience as a newspaper editor, reporter, and short story writer. In 1878 he became the personal assistant to Sir Henry Irving, the foremost Shakespearean actor of his day, accompanying him on tours and managing Irving’s theater. After Irving’s death in 1905, Stoker worked on the literary staff of the London Telegraph. Dracula, his most famous work, was published in 1897. Throughout his life, Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was plagued by ill health, which interrupted his formal education at Edinburgh University. Pursuing the life of a bohemian during his twenties and thirties, he traveled around Europe and formed the basis of his first two books, An Inland Journey (1878) and Travels with a Donkey (1879). Stevenson gained his first popular success with Treasure Island (1883). The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which sold forty thousand copies in six months, and Kidnapped appeared in 1886, followed by The Black Arrow (1888) and The Master of Ballantrae (1889). In 1888, he set out with his family for the South Seas, traveling to the leper colony at Molokai, and finally settling in Samoa, where he died.Stephen King is the author of more than fifty books, all of them worldwide bestsellers. He is the recipient of the 2014 National Medal of Arts and the 2003 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. He lives in Bangor, Maine, with his wife, novelist Tabitha King.

The font is very small and unappealing to want to read.

I was looking for a copy of Jekyii & Hyde after seeing the stage musical and was pleasantly surprised to find it packaged with Frankenstein and Dracula, which I had never read. It was great to get all 3 in one book.

A must read at least once in life! All three of the novels are in the canon of Gothic and dark literature; they are not always perfectly written, but that does not diminish their appeal in any way! Enjoyed rereading them!

For this value, this book is absolutely amazing. Not too bulky, maybe the size of an average hand (thumb to pink) in width, it is a great value with good pages and binding. These three horror stories speak for themselves, but put back to back like this is truly a treat.Frankenstein, to begin with, is the original Frankenstein before the movies got to him. A story of revenge and betrayal, with many other themes of feminism and creationism intertwined.Dracula, a monster that needs no introduction is a great continuation to this monster fest as is Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hide. Definitely worth the buy.

I loved this triple classic.I was looking for the originals of Frank and Drac and found this. Dr Jeckyll was a bonus.I loved all 3. My wife loved it too. We watched some Frankenstein 'original' on TV and compared notes. Same with Dracula. Most interesting to see the evolution of the original characters to what we have today. Most folk do not know the real stories.Figure a month to get through them all.

Three books in one.

Great for the price

Many of my students will take a second look now! I thought my young readers might appreciate the addition of a modern, well known "horror" author's recommendation; and boy, happily, was I right!

RC Concepcion does a great job of making Lightroom easy and dare I say fun to use! Highly recommended. If the Photoshop book is as good as this one I can throw out more than half of my photography books!

Useful. Easy to understand. I've been using Lightroom for years; RC covered Lightroom features I didn't know about. No weak attempts at humor, unlike some Lightroom books.

Very Useful!

New to Lightroom. Looks like it will help with learning.

Well done book for beginners and for folks familiar with Lightroom already. The author covers everything I can think of about Lightroom, from importing your photographs to printing and exporting to the web once your photos have been edited. In between those two areas, he devotes several chapters to editing. Very useful book even if you are somewhat experienced in using Lightroom.Rafael starts out with a too-true statement about photography: we will spend a lot more time organizing ourpictures than actually developing them. I know that's true in my case! What he says in the first chapter is that too many people use light room to edit but not to organize. Makes me optimistic that he will tell me how to organize photos because I'm about to start using Lightroom for that purpose. He gives helpful hints, like just keeping one catalog so that you have just one place to search for images. What I see as a bonus is that he also talks about lightroom mobile for tablets and smart phones. I didn't expect to get information on apps! Really, this section of the book is worth the price of admission. I had the app on my phone, but didn't realize how multifaceted and useful it is. You can even import photos from your desktop to work on with your phone app when you're away from home. The author has a chapter dedicated to making books in lightroom which I was very happy to see. I've been wondering how to display my photos more than one at a time and now I can.I am especially happy that he takes time to explain, step-by-step, how to import pics and organize them in light room. This will be such a useful guide as I learn more about like me.As to developing your images the author says that the first for sliders in light room are critical and that he uses only them in 80% of his image production: exposure, contrast, highlights, and shadows. I would add sharpening, but otherwise agree with him.The author says he doesn't use the whites and blacks sliders very often because he relies more on the sliders I described in the above paragraph. I tend to use them only when the other adjustments aren't enough. He gives a good explanation of the clarity slider and I haven't before seen much written about that. Reading this book makes me want to run to my computer every five minutes to try the Tips he's giving. Is to color adjustment, the author says that if you are looking to change a specific color in a particular area of a photo, you are better off working in Photoshop and using layers. He gets very practical and insightful tips throughout the book.Cropping is the subject of one chapter which I liked, because I seldom see cropping tips given.Toward the end of the book, Concepcion has a good section on printing through Lightroom. He includes how to choose paper, which he says is like wine pairing for photography :-), as well as figuring out what resolution to print your photos.

RC Concepcion has a track record as really knowing his stuff when it comes to Lightroom. He also has a track record of being a superb instructor. Both of these are apparent in “The Enthusiast’s Guide to Lightroom.” I have not seen a better book for those new to Lightroom, It will really does just what the title says, namely, guide your through all of the ins and outs of this outstanding piece of software. As someone who has been using Lightroom for several years, what surprised me was how beneficial I found the book personally. No matter what your level of expertise with Lightroom, there are things that you will learn from reading this book. The book is laid out and organized beautifully. It is a breeze to make your way through it. In fact, the book is a delight to read. Although I must add, this has been universally my experience with books published by Rocky Nook. Most often where people have the most problems with Lightroom is in the Library Module. If you do not internalize the fact that Lightroom is NOT a browser based photo editor, you are in for a lot of grief. However, if you are willing to live within the constraints of Lightroom and are willing to play by its rules, the Library Module is a fantastic resource for organizing your photographs. If you stick with Lightroom, you will come to love the Library Module. RC tells you exactly what you need to know. Please pay close attention to what he says.In the Develop Module, where we do our editing, we also tend to have the most fun. And as RC shows us, Adobe is making it more and more user friendly and more and more intuitive and more and more fun. If you are using the Creative Cloud version of Lightroom, which I would highly recommend, you will regularly experience how much Lightroom continues to improve.Something that I appreciated in RC’s approach is that RC is not reticent to challenge the conventional wisdom. For example, he tells us up front that he rarely uses the Black and White Point adjustments, contrary to what most of the experts advise. Personally, I still like beginning with setting my White and Black Points and going from there. But I intend to try out RC’s workflow. RC is never high handed; he does not claim that his way is the best way, but he does let us know what it is. Similarly, he also lays out places where there are the most common differences of opinion. For example, he brings up the whole is it okay to crop or not okay to crop. He lets us know the he feels free to crop like crazy, but he reinforces that that is a personal decision.Time and again, RC offers tips that were new to me. He discusses the value of the Clarity slider, but he adds that out of focus photographs will be made worse with adding Clarity. I had not known that. His tip for bypassing the Preview dialog box with Merging Bracketed files is one that I have already incorporated. If you are a long time user of Lightroom, you may not realize the advances that have been made in some of the Modules. A notable example is the Book Module. Early on, it was not very good. But now, it is terrific. If you want to create a book, Lightroom is a great place to do it.One piece of advice I would give to both beginners and long time users is, read the entire book. Lightroom is an evolving piece of software. And it is a piece of software that integrates beautifully with Photoshop but also with all of the major photo editing software of which I am acquainted. One other thing that I would mention is that I think we all would benefit from first reading the book all of the way through and then going back and focusing on certain sections of the book, practicing what we learn.“The Enthusiast’s Guide to Lightroom” should be in every Lightroom user’s library.

This is an outstanding reference book that is geared toward the beginning Lightroom user. The author starts out by explaining the importance of properly organizing your photos and how Lightroom is a great tool to help you. It is very easy to read with great illustrations to help explain the interface. If you only read (and comprehend) the Chapter 1, you will have gone a long way into understanding Lightroom. So many photographers are so excited about developing their pictures, that they don’t spend enough time understanding what a Lightroom catalog can do to make developing easier. RC does a great job in emphasizing the importance of a catalog vs. browsing images. One thing that I appreciated was the good index that is so important in this type of book. If you don’t take the time to read this book from cover to cover (which you should), it is a great reference tool when you don’t understand a Lightroom procedure. My only negative on this book (or any tech book) is that the software is constantly evolving, so it is hard for a book to keep everything completely current. But the updates that have currently been made to Lightroom are minor and the basic concepts are the same.Highly Recommend!

I've been putting off reading this series due to the Rizzoli & Isles television series, but it wasn't necessary. Like Longmire, the producers use the authors' works as springboards to new storylines, so both books and television series can be enjoyed.I think the detail that threw me the most was the absence of Dr. Maura Isles, who isn't introduced until the next entry, The Apprentice. I had already been informed of the differences between literary Rizzoli and her TV counterpart-- and that's enough comparisons between the two mediums!I have to admit that the serial killer part of The Surgeon was a tad old hat, but this was written in 2001 when he would've been much fresher. Watching the investigation unfold was fascinating; it took a lot of basic police work, dotting the i's and crossing the t's. Going back over the same ground until some small detail stood out and begged to be followed up on.Due to Gerritsen's medical background, readers get an excellent feel for the protocol in hospitals and the split-second decisions that must be made in the emergency room. But the overarching theme of The Surgeon is women competing in what has always been considered a "man's world." Jane Rizzoli and Catherine Cordell both have cores of steel; they have to because of their occupations. Too many times women have been treated as victims, as a sex not worthy of being heard, only of being ignored, protected as something "lesser," or... of being disposed of. Tess Gerritsen makes readers feel every second, every ounce, of this injustice. It's this passion of hers, along with her fast-paced story, her fascinating characters, and her eye for detail that will keep me reading her books.

If you have never seen the "Rizzoli and Isles" tv show, you will really "enjoy" this novel, though enjoy is a verb I am not sure fits. It is a very bloody and "terrifying" plot that will give you the willies. It is, also, the basis for a couple of plots in the tv show.If you are reading this novel, as I did, because you really enjoy the tv show you will be severely disappointed. The show was a wonderful montage on plots, people, characters and humanity. The two main characters, on the tv show, are great friends, people whom I would like to know, interesting, good, thoughtful and warm, they genuinely like one another and they have great interaction with their colleagues, their families and their jobs. That does NOT happen in the books. Rizzoli, in the books is unlikable, rude, hard headed and totally not someone whom I would trust to find a lost pair of glasses. Isles, in the books, is not at all interesting. She is more like a paper doll than the fascinating and fabulous person she is in the tv shows. Rizzoli's family is mean and vicious in the books, not the supporting and great group of people they are in the show. In addition Rizzoli has NO redeeming qualities and her "fellow" officers seem to spend all their time waiting for her to fall on her face and fail. And Isles is, actually, a flat paper character. Now as to the books, if you are looking for the characters on the show in the book, you will not find them. What you will find is stories based more on the monsters Gerritsen is writing about. In the books, the police are there to, eventually, catch the bad guy. The bad guys are much more interesting and the plots are good. If I had never seen the tv show I would love the books. Unfortunately, I came to the books after the show. The Surgeon is someone, in the book, whom Isles, of the tv show, would have caught immediately. I caught it, the major clue that led, eventually, to figuring out "who dun it". And the major plot points of the book are carried forward into the tv show, as well as the "sequel" The Apprentice.Do I like the novels? Yes, when I can quit "seeing" the tv show. This is the thing you need to keep in mind, on the tv show the primary point is the interpersonal relationships. I never thought I would say this, but I actually like the way the show is written better than the way the characters are portrayed in the books. However, the books are better vis a vis the crimes. And that is because the books are about the crimes. Thus, for interpersonal relationships, family, characterization the tv show is much, much better. For "crime" the books are more centered and complete. Both are enjoyable but for different reasons.

I read this book because I enjoy reading and learning about medicine and the different stories which it regards. It compared to my expectations by exceeding them because the mood Tess Gerritsen creates with the dialogue of her characters allows an eerie and suspenseful atmosphere for her readers to indulge in. My personal connection to this book includes my passion for medicine, as well as my mother's stories which she brings home from the operating room. I believe the theme of rape and murder which led to the medical perspective kept me on my toes because the police investigation of the rape and murder crimes brought in new characters who led the story into many different brilliant directions. I believe young adults should read this book because it introduces them to a new and different genre which they have not dipped their toes into before. It might cause emotional irritation at first, however, the story only becomes better the deeper you read into it. Gerritsen's The Surgeon is a wonderful book for young adults who wish to experience a suspenseful police investigation novel.

This was SUCH a good read! The episodes of violence and/or sexual content were brief and pertinent to the story (although "brief" and "pertinent" are pretty subjective, so others may disagree). This is the kind of book that found me totally absorbed with the characters and the action; saying things like, "No! Don't go there!!" and "C'mon! You know better than that!" I'm hoping that I'm not the only one who "converses" with the characters in a book. I experienced all of the ups and downs of the investigation right along with Jane Rizzoli. I'm now reading the next in the series, "The Apprentice" and it is just as compelling. I plan to read the whole series. NOTE: If you watch the TV series, you will see that there are some differences, such as the physical description of Rizzoli and of Isles, as well as some differences in other characters. I just don't find this distracting.

It’s 1942 and German troops have occupied most of Europe. A French woman named Odette Sansom wants to do her part to fight the Germans and manages to become a spy code-named Lise. She joins forces with an English officer named Peter Churchill who will be her commanding officer. Remarkably, Odette had once been married and still had three children but she persuades a relative to take care of them while she fulfills her patriotic duty for France. Odette is alone in Arles, France on Christmas eve 1942 and joins a group of German officers at their hotel. After a feast of cake and several bottles of Cote du Rhone she persuades the Germans to move a piano upstairs where the sounds can be enjoyed by a greater number of hotel guests. Not exactly a bit of spy craft but it does attest to Odette’s cleverness. Peter, Odette and several compatriots are captured by Nazis and taken by train to one of Germany’s infamous prison camps. Odette is subjected to some torture that even made me cringe but she would not reveal any military secrets. Peter and Odette begin to have romantic feelings about each other during this period and told their captors that they were married even though they were not. Because of Peter’s last name, the Nazis believed that they had caught a relative of the British Prime Minister; neither Peter nor Odette tried to tell them otherwise. The Nazis sent an offer to England and offer a trade: we’ll give you Peter Churchill in exchange for Rudolf Hess. England, however, would not agree to the switch. Both Peter and Odette survive the war, are released from prison and travel to England where they eventually marry. Because of her heroism during the war, Odette is selected to receive an award. In a large ceremony the George Cross is presented to her by none other than King George VI, the only woman being honored along with 249 men. Photographs, reference notes and the author’s commentary are provided. This is an inspiring book of non-fiction that reads like a exciting and tension-filled novel.

A captivating true story of a female spy in World War II. In all honesty, I had to read this in a 3 day time span. It was so harrowing, horrific and heart-breaking, I had to take many breaks while reading.'Code Name: Lise' worked for the SPINDLE Circuit (Special Operations Executive) or SOE as it is referred to in this book. She was born in France but moved to England at an early age. Odette was her name at birth. The entire time I was reading this true story, my admiration for her grew. From her recruitment into SOE and the training, her determination to succeed illustrated her true spirit. And, of course, I kept wondering what created her motivation? Despite numerous serious health problems at an early age, she persevered. And, persevered with an open mind and spirit. The depth of the training was intense and was divided into 4 phases. And, it should be noted that 80% of the trainees were disqualified. Not one area was left out....physical, explosives, weapons, ciphers, killing and even included grenades and machine guns. These agents were trained to the maximum and trust me, without this intense training, some would have not survived. Finally in early 1943, she was on her way and SPINDLE was set. Her commanding officer was Peter Churchill and the mission was in Marseilles, France. The beginning of the spy portion in this book. For me, some items really stood out including the rationing of food during the war. Also, on a personal note my Dad was in WW II aboard an aircraft carrier and he had told me years ago that the radio equipment was so heavy. In this book, the radio operator was tasked with carrying the equipment to different locations to avoid detection. As one may surmise, these operators were truly sought after as they had knowledge of many items the other side was extremely interested in.The treatment of the prisoners in the prisons and in the Concentration Camps was just plain horrific. The Gestapo had interrogation fine-tuned to extract the most information. I have never read more details about the interrogation techniques than in this book. And, this is when I had to take frequent breaks...excruciating is the word that comes to mind but really torture at its finest...ouch...Some better moments occurred, however, with the selfless priest, Father Steinert. Thank God, for people of his caliber... Truly a saint put into the cloak of a priest at the right time for the prisoners. And, I also kept wondering where in the world did Odette get her intestinal fortitude to carry on? Where does courage come from? And, why did she join in the SOE in the first place? The author has a most interesting Appendix that explains the awards (including the George Cross) given to Odette and Peter were not without a lot of controversy. And, controversy that continued for many years.Truly an educational read for me...especially the portions on the training aspect for SOE, the treatment of the prisoners by the Gestapo, and the manner in which the missions were carried out. Most highly recommended...

Granted we had several "snowed-in" days, but I finished this book in two sittings - couldn't put it down. I'd read a couple books on Odette's compatriot Nancy Wake, the White Mouse, and it was equally chilling/exciting/mesmerizing. These women (and men) had WAY more courage and endurance than I could ever hope to have! I hope we still have young people "coming up" who have this kind of patriotism and love for their fellowmen.

The author focuses a lot on the spy's time in prison, being mistreated, which I guess is appropriate since she got awards for her bravery in not talking. But I think he also likes going into descriptions of what exactly torture is like, which I find weird. And, ok, he tells us that she convinced prison guards of things that weren't true but that kept her and her captain safe. But. I wanted to know what the group did BEFORE she went to prison, and also read about a competent woman just doing something well. The first of the book focuses on other people's incompetence and on various mishaps. You come away thinking that this woman has a lot of respect from people but did kind of bumble through her work. I doubt that that's the reality.Amazon, please recommend more books about women doing things well. I don't want to read about mistreatment and misadventures. Thanks.

This story is gripping often hair raising and true! I so appreciate these books that remind us of our shared history and the heroes that lived it. This book is such a worthwhile and inspiring read. Just buy the book already!

This is a tough one. I love this author, especially her women's fiction. I have read and recommended her to anyone who would listen. She is terrific. However, this book surprised me. And not in a good way. The story is so well-written--she truly is always at the top of her game--but I feel sort of misled. Now that You Mention It has all the trappings of a Kristan Higgins novel; humor, likeable protagonist, sassy friends, cheerful cover and jacket description. However, that's where it ends. I wish there was some indication that this was NOT a lighthearted romp. Every author has the right to branch off and try something new, but the last thing I was expecting was a story with so much violence and misery. It was like watching a TV reporter smile pleasantly while delivering a story about death and mayhem. Or a singer --as I once saw on American Idol do -- perform 'Gimme Shelter' while dancing around and grinning. It just doesn't add up and not what I expected when I picked up the book. I suspect the marketing department is more to blame than the author, but those are my thoughts. However, I remain a huge fan and look forward to her next book.

Alright. Going to do something I rarelydo, not finish a book. Was so excited when I started this book described as a light-hearted comedy. Clearly 30% into I was shocked to read one of the most graphic rape scenes I have ever encountered. I do not mind intense, dark books if I know on the front end that is what I am going to read. I enjoy reading a variety of types of literature. But I want to choose when to read a dark, intense work. This is not a book of comedy. While this author is talented, this book was woefully misrepresented and was not what it seems.

I finished Now That You Mention It, in one day. I did like it, obviously, because I couldn’t put it down. But it’s not amongst my favorite Kristan Higgins. I’m not sure why. It’s a more serious novel more about a dysfunctional family and how those that remain are reconciled. It is about two young girls and how the abandonment by their father wreaks devastating consequences for them both. One ends up in prison and our heroine, Nora, manages to pull herself out of the black hole of her childhood and become a doctor by hard work and leaving the cruel and hurtful climate of her childhood home by winning a scholarship to Tufts University. The Higgins humor is still there, just not as pervasive as in her early works. Here’s one of my favorite descriptions of her Mother:I still had my Maine medical license, just in case my mom ever needed me in an emergency, though she wasn’t the type to have emergencies, and certainly not the type to call me if she did. Say a grizzly bear came down from Canada and bit off her arm. Mom would just shoot the bear, sew her arm back on with the thick black thread she used to sew our buttons back on when we were kids, then butcher the bear, make it into chili and use the skin as a rug.Classic Higgins.Nora’s Mom is the acme of Higgins' long line of crazy mothers. There are also 2 classic slapstick comedy episodes that had me laughing out loud.It is certainly not the light frothy romance of her early efforts. Although even then she was delving into pain and disfunction. Her two novels prior to this one, were certainly more women's fiction than romance and I loved them. Her bridge between the two genres was one of my favorites: Anything for You. I think the main reason this in on the periphery of "great" for me was that the romance part seemed a little tacked on rather than being an integral part of the story. It could have been cut out completely and hardly missed. In addition, there were some things I really didn’t understand. The drama and conflict did not seem well supported. The inexplicables:[Why did she put up with her sisters mess for so long? Why was she such a victim and martyr when it came to her worthless cruel and destructive sister? Why did she still love her so much? Why was her mother so cold and blind to Nora’s childhood suffering? Why didn’t she try to reach out to her later in life? Everyone could see that Nora was a kind, strong, lovely smart woman. Why was she still so mean to her? I mean, I can understand Maine reserve and stoicism, but this woman was so distant and unsympathetic to her wonderful daughter who would have made any parent so proud. And only her daughter. She was well-liked and respected in the community and doted on her pet bird, and she started a hug therapy business, for heaven’s sake. Where did that come from? Nora did nothing to deserve such apparent indifference. Why did her winning the Perez scholarship cause such hostility in the community? Why was she blamed for the accident? How could she blame herself? Many knew of Luke, the town golden boy’s, drugging and slipping grades. The teachers knew he hadn’t even come close to winning the scholarship and it was Nora’s all along. Luke knew it. His doting mother would have known about his grade slippage. Yet they blamed Nora for “stealing” the prize. This is a small isolated community. More people would have known and spread the word. Nora was a daughter of one of the mainstays of the community. She wasn’t some intruder. Come on. He flunked out of Maine Uni. Whose fault was that? After the bullying and cruelty Nora endured as a child, how could any of the townspeople blame her for not coming back for 15 years? How could it have taken Poe so long to love and appreciate her Aunt? All in all I did enjoy the book. The suspense of unanswered questions, high anticipation of events that were bound to happen, and characters one gets greatly invested in kept me reading throughout the day. I was pleasantly surprised that she stayed clear of certain dramatic and potentially angst-ridden events that could have happened but didn't. I was just a little disappointed in the romance and some of the plot points. ***3.5 stars***

Gonna be honest- I’m a huge fan of this author but this seemed really similar to some of her other works especially Fools Rush In. Same came back to island to be doctor story, similar high school sister drama, similar body image drama for pages, very familiar aunt/adult trying to bond with teen story. Except the romance was like a weak throw in that never really felt developed. We heard more about her annoying ex than the sweet love interest. Her mom was super one dimensional;town cruelty exaggerated beyond belief - Also didn’t love the higher price for a worse book. And I really don’t think all these characters would keep so much information from each other - dad’s illness, her attack, etc. Still some good laugh out loud moments. And I adored Xiaowen. Any other Higgins freaks out there who felt like you just did a reread of one of her old books without the good parts?

I’m a big fan of Kristan Higgins, and this is the first book I’ve read of hers that falls flat. First off, where is the romance, or even a basic love story? It’s dark and depressing and she repeats the same things over and over. Kristan has an incredible gift of developing characters with depth. Even in her early books that were more romance, she really made it feel you knew each of her characters. This story didn’t really go anywhere either. Parts of it were unbelievable, I mean come on. Her mother is a woman who shows no emotion towards her daughter, yet gives hugs to strangers for therapy? Also, she makes you think her attacker will be caught, but that part of the story just ends unfinished. Also, Sullivan ‘s brother’s story is practically the same as her first traumatic event. I don’t get it. It’s like someone else wrote this book. I see none of the qualities of Higgins’ writing style at all. This is coming from someone who has not only read everyone of her books, but read them at least twice. I really thought long and hard about this review. I’m giving it 2 stars, but I think I’m being generous. Come on Kristan. Please write us another great book. I’ll be waiting. I’m not giving up on you. This one doesn’t even come close to your caliber of writing.
