Review

Newbery Medalist Creech touches on themes of loss, friendship, and belonging in this appealing tale. The book’s playful use of words sets this novel apart. Fans of Love That Dog will find much to love in this story of a girl, a cow, and so much more. (Kirkus Reviews (starred review))As Reena learns that a little kindness works wonders for both people and animals, Creech’s spare narrative creates vivid, emotion-packed images of landscapes, characters, and “that/ wild-eyed/ heifer,” Zora, that will stay with readers. (Publishers Weekly (starred review))Creech offers a memorable family story featuring an especially difficult cow… A heartfelt tale that will be embraced by Creech’s fans, work well as a classroom read-aloud, and find a spot in book groups. (School Library Journal (starred review))The quick pace and accessible narrative will win over reluctant readers, and it’s an easy pick for fans of Creech’s Love That Dog or animal lovers looking for a quick yet moo-ving read. Zora was chasing us.Mooooooooo. Mooooooooo. When we reached the gate Luke scrambled up and over it instead of through it and I was trying to follow when Zora’s ENORMOUS HEAD loomed up below me and bumped me into the airWhen twelve-year-old Reena, her little brother, Luke, and their parents move to Maine, Reena doesn’t know what to expect. This book was a very good short read. I am ten and would recommend it to anyone who wants a quick, deep book. It handles with loss and changes and teaches reader's that you should always look on the bright side. It is written in a very unique way , starting off more with poetry then getting into the longer chapters . I love this book and think you should too.

I must admit I have not read this book. My local library sent an email announcement about this book as something my 8 year old son might enjoy. I put a copy on hold and got one of the first copies to arrive. To say my son loved this book is putting it lightly. While he is a regular reader, this book lit a fire in him. He loved that he finished a "thick chapter book" and attributes his success (and willingness to even try to read such a "thick" book) to the short chapters. He said he hates stopping in the middle of a chapter and felt a great sense of accomplishment when he could finish a chapter-or two or three-in a sitting. He could not wait to read it after school, before bed, in the car. This book really kept him captivated. He like it so much he begged me to buy the book, which I did....He'll find out Christmas morning.

Sharon Creech fans will not be disappointed in this humorous & "moo-ving" story. Creech is a masterful & lyrical writer that tells the story of a family's move to Maine. They must overcome new challenges such as adapting to small town life & training of an ornery cow. Perfect middle grade read for fans of Love that Dog! I did find the story a little long & was thankful for the white-space to help break up the story!

I'm not the best person to review or rate any of Sharon Creech's books. You can just put me down for 5 stars every single time. Moo - a clever and heartwarming combination of prose and poetry. I only wish I'd gotten the paper copy to begin with - to put it on the shelf with the rest of my Creech favorites. Don't miss "Moo."

I thought that this book was good for many reasons. Dirt if all the author did a great job of illustrating the places the characters went. I liked this because it made me able to better create pictures even iMovies in my mind. The second reason I liked this book was because it was so unique. The characters were so different and unique in their own way. The last reason why I liked this book was that I loved to see the characters develop relationships with other characters. My favorite example was the relationship between Luke and Mrs. Falala. I loved how their relation ship grew and grew throughout the story. However I thought that the story was missing some things. I thought that the first thing that was missing was a second book. I think and other readers probably want to know what happens to Reena and Luke after Mrs. Falala passes away. Will they meet new people? Will Reena form a new relationship with and Beet? I thought that overall Moo is an amazing book for children to read. 10/10

A must read for any child that goes past a pasture of cows in their neighborhood. A sure read for any kid on a farm, and any 4H member. The ending is so well written and the ending dealing with death is part of any farm child's life. Wonderful book for any third to fourth grader. I also as an adult laughed at the animals and the children as they learned to get along together. GK

This book is fabulous. My daughter enjoyed reading it so much, she asked me to purchase a copy for her personal library! She is 10 years old.

Love this book. Sharon Creech is a master of middle grade voice. I have devoured all her books and she never ceases to amaze. This one is a quick read, but packed with emotion and memorable characters.
