This was crazy. My gastroenterologist said that following this diet would cure me, and it would only take a month or two.But I really didn't understand it. No bread? One of my staples... but I could try sourdough. No icecream... but I could add it back in a week or two. No this/try that instead. I didn't understand the LOGIC behind all the do and don'ts. So I had to go by the book. This book was helpful, and it was chock full of really tasty recipes. I quickly found that the directions in the book were much too intricate and complicated. But they did deliniate which foods to eat and which to skip. It also helped me to substitute for some vital wants. No garlic or onions, but a very satisfactory substitute strategy that saved the day. Bottom line: I quickly found which foods and medicines were causing the trouble and which weren't. Within a few weeks, I was back to my traditional diet, minus the few culprits that were unmasked by the fodmap regime. For that, this book was a godsend.
I suffer from severe IBS and my tummy has been very happy since this book arrived. Easy to read & follow, great recipes too! You follow a restrictive diet for 4-6 wks, then you start introducing food groups to see what your triggers are. Trust me when I tell you that the restrictive part really isn't that bad and you won't always be restricted. This is a great way to tailor a diet specifically to you. Each person that has IBS has different triggers, with different degrees of attacks. I also down loaded the FODMAP app, I use the book and app daily. For the past year and a half I have also followed Heather's Help for IBS, while she has great advice I was still having attacks. By using this book in conjunction with her advice of eating soluble fiber first, my tummy is really feeling great!
I bought the paperback version. Black and white, no photos of dishes; a lot of recipes use egg.I have paperbacks everywhere in this house, and this is the type that has that really bad smell and rough texture (the kind that shreds if you write with a sharp pen)Had I known, I would have gone for the electronic version.
This guide isn’t just a bunch of recipes - it’s an entire plan dedicated to helping IBS sufferers develop a new way of eating. I was a little worried when I was looking at the list of off-limits foods (no wheat, no garlic, and no apples, for starters) but the book lists several useful workarounds, and the meal plan is, if anything, more abundant and varied than what I usually eat. If you’re suffering from IBS, or similar syndromes with a diet component like celiac, I’d definitely recommend putting yourself through this program.
This book is educational, but the shopping lists done correspond to the weeks properly. I ended up buying stuff I didn't need and not buying stuff I did need. The recipes are perfect, but you'll have to do more work than you think to plan.
This is a great low-fodmap diet plan! I just recently got put on this diet for IBS and was so confused even with all my research online! This book has done wonders; it gives great detail and awesome meal planning techniques! Not only does this give you a week by week meal plan; it gives you a list of items you will need to have for each week as well as teaching you how to prep ahead so it is ready! Very good fodmap plan! Highly recommend this to all!
If you're looking for an in depth analysis of the FODMAP diet, which eliminates inflammatory food choices, you need to look elsewhere. The book assumes you're already sold on the idea and sets up the framework for a four week diet program, and it does it well. The plan apparently has a 75% success rate among IBS patients, and there is some indication for Ulcerative colitis and crohn's as well, but not enough research to support that. I have Crohn's, and I'm trying this to narrow down irritants. With my GI doc's blessing, the book is good at pointing out this should be vetted first. It makes sense, the 4-6 week trial is doable, and the recipes look good. We'll see what happens. The trick is to maintain balance........
This book is the PERFECT introductory guide for anyone who has thought about or decided to try a low-FODMAP diet. I wish I had found it sooner actually, because changing your dietary habits so radically can leave you wondering what the heck you CAN eat. The 28-day plan is ideal for this purpose because it includes shopping lists and pantry staple items to always have on hand, and it allows you to plan out your entire week (snacks included), which is something you'll need to get used to doing in advance for the best chances of sticking to the low-FODMAP diet.I've been on the low-FODMAP diet for 2 months now and I cannot believe how much my condition has improved. I have Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome and possibly IBS as well. Since I started the low-FODMAP diet and amino acid supplements, I have not vomited once. This is amazing for me. Do not wait a moment longer feeling miserable and hopeless. You don't need to live like that. Heal your body by feeding it the right foods that it knows how to digest. You will be shocked by the improvement in your energy level, mood and blood sugar stability, and the changes to your digestive tract. I didn't really even understand how bad my problems were until they went away. Now that they're gone, I'm sticking to this diet because I feel so good. I am doing way more cooking for myself than I ever did in the past, I'm losing weight at a healthy pace simply by eating such healthy food all the time, and above all I am HAPPY!The one thing I want to stress above all else, is that you need to stick with this diet for a full month to really start seeing the benefits of being on the low-FODMAP diet long term. It simply takes that long for your body to rid itself of all the old icky things you used to eat before. Good luck to you, you wouldn't be looking into a book like this unless you're desperate and ready for a big change. I hope you have as much success with the low-FODMAP diet as I have, because it truly changed my life for the better.
