I basically give all these Garfield 3-packs the same rating-- First, it's a really good deal to buy the books this way price-wise. Second, Garfield really inspired my 8 year old son to learn to read a few years ago, and he reads and re-reads these books over and over. Unlike some comic books or made-for-kids books (I'm thinking of things like the comic sections of Captain Underpants), there are no spelling errors or weird slang he won't understand-- Nothing too violent or off-color-- Just Garfield. I can let him read it without worrying about it, and Garfield has become an old friend.

we have many volumes, but for some reason volume 4 falls apart. Tried two books and both had to be tossed.

I used to read garfield all the time when I was little, I had an old copy from my elementary days in my classroom. One day a kid picked it up and could NOT stop laughing. I had to buy more to keep my class under control. They are great for getting some stubborn boys to read :)

My 8 and 11 yr old fought over who was going to get their little grubby hands on this book first... What can I say.... GARFIELD NEVER fails... The vocabulary and not to mention the sarcasm my kiddos have learned from years of reading Garfield.... Priceless.

What a great value!!! My son LOVES reading the funny pages in the paper. I found these and some foxtrot ones for him for his birthday and he hardly puts them down! Great value! Perfect for any funny pages fan my son has gotten HOURS out of this book. He has read and re read over and over will buy more volumes of these for christmas!

My son is not the most "into school" kid-- and he was really struggling in reading-- Was even in Reading Recovery in first grade (last year) for awhile-- And then he discovered Garfield comic books at the library and fell in love with them!-- and he just tested in the 78percentile (meaning, he reads better than 78 percent of kids in our district for his grade)! He LOVES these books and I've bought him a few of these 3-pack books on Amazon (way cheaper than anywhere else!) as gifts for him, just to say "Good job, keep going!" Really, for how thick and colorful the book is-- this is really a nice price. While they (all the Garfield 3-pack books-- which there are many!) are generally paperback, it's a nice sturdy binding and, unlike some of the other books that kids his age tend to be attracted to, I know the words are spelled correctly, the grammar isn't funky-- and there is nothing too racy in it! I say if you can find something that gets your kid reading that meet those criteria-- GRAB IT!

This book, and other Garfield books, are a great step for kids who have grown out of phonics books but are too intimidated to try chapter books. There's not too many words on each page and each page has pictures to provide contextual clues to more difficult words. However, these aren't "babyish" so older kids love to read these as well. Garfield books help my son actual enjoy silent reading time. I love the value of these 3-packs as well.

My 7 year old daughter loves these Garfield Fat Cat 3-packs. She has been spending at least an hour each evening soaking in the lasagna loving cat comics. One item to note is that pack #10, 11 and 12 are slightly less tall books and are in black and white. The others have been in color.

This is a wonderful book, great recipes! My ONLY complaint is the temperatures are a little high for almond flour. I've been on SCD for 8 years and cooking with nut flours you need a longer cook time and a lower temperature. (Nut flours are expensive so you don't want burnt cookies/bread!!) For example, the "oatmeal" cookies should be cooked between 320/330 for about 13-15 min. Keep an eye on your baked goods when they're in the oven. It's not as forgiving as regular flour. Also, if you have crohns or colitis this diet is truly a lifesaver! As someone who had a complete colectomy due to crohns (a completely unnecessary procedure once I learned about the importance of diet) this diet is a miracle. (My jpouch was starting to fail so I had to do something because I had given up on doctors) It takes awhile to kick in (hey you've probably been eating poorly for years!) but once it does the difference is amazing. This book, with its artful, full-color photos of the recipes, convinced me after much foot-dragging that I could try the SCD. I was happy to see recipes for bread and crackers and other familiar items that even a carb-lover like myself could look forward to. I also found the simple charts of which foods are allowed very helpful, as well as the detailed instructions for everyday items such as nut milks and butters.The main drawback of this book is that it seems to be subtly less strict on what is allowed/not allowed compared to the original book on SCD, Breaking the Vicious Cycle. I've noticed that Kerwien's book allows canned vegetables, as well as smaller things like garlic powder and seed butters, that seem to be frowned upon by BTVC. As someone who is just starting out on the SCD and trying to follow it to the letter, this has been a bit of an annoyance. Otherwise, I have really enjoyed this book.

Starting this diet was a bit overwhelming, change is good but can intimidate. That is until I really took a look at all the recipes and things I can have. Learning new foods, doing "without" the foods that cause issues but taste good. This book is very easy reading, sensible, and full of good stuff. I highly recommend this book. I can also say that in the two weeks that I have been following the diet, I really do feel better already!

This cook book has a LOT of great recipes that are not only easy to follow, but delicious! There is a great variety of savory and sweet foods, and the instructions are clear & easy to understand. This book also has great pictures which make the recipes look appealing. I get hungry just looking through it!After spending many hours online trying to find SCD recipes here and there on blogs and websites, I am very excited to have this cook book with so many great recipes all in one place.

Tragically and inexplicably, this cookbook sat on my shelf for over 2 1/2 years before I attempted any of the recipes. Two of the author's bread products are the closest thing to their traditional counterparts that I've found in all my family's years on SCD: the popovers (yes, I said popovers!) and the cinnamon raisin bread. The cinnamon bun muffins are unbelievable! I'm excited to try a few of the savory dishes--we'd been in a bit of a slump from the lack of dietary variety available to us, but this cookbook has renewed some of our joy in eating. Much appreciated!

Practical recipes and guidance whereas some of this cookbooks for SCD are not. At least this one does't rely on difficult to source ingredients to fulfill most of the recipes with the exception of DRY CURD Cheese or Farmer's Cheese which is not as easy to make as it sounds and near impossible if not impossible to purchase locally in most USA municipalities, including ours, from what I have read online. If you do find it, it is a small fortune, thus putting it out of reach of most households.

I have found out that many of my friends have special diets from vegan, gluten free, dairy free and low carbohydrate. They have had digestive issues and just trying get healthy, sometimes eating out and making food for them is complicated. The specific carbohydrate diet could really help heal your gut. This is a complete book with all the equipment, supplies, ingredients you need and this book tells you exactly which food are on a specific carbohydrate diet. It has many recipes from crackers to a Crème Brulee. This will give me more options this year for the holidays when baking for friends and family.

Several months ago I was put on the SCD diet for my SIBO. So the first thing I needed to do was to learn to cook for myself and hopefully find recipes that my family would also enjoy. This book had good reviews so I started with this one.I have been so happy with this book. I have tired many recipes in this book and I have truly enjoyed all of her recipes that I have tried so far. My absolutely favorite recipe from her book in her grain free granola. I make a big bath and sprinkle it on yogurt or my salads. I also love her classic marinara, I make a big bath and freeze it in smaller portions. The table or contents categories are: About SCD, Basic Recipes, Small Bites and Snacks, Salads and Soups, Sauces Jams and Dips, Breads, Biscuits and Crepes, Vegetables and mock starches, Poultry Meat and Seafood, Sweet Treats. This book, in reality, was originally published after the notes, drawings and photographs made by Lane during his journey to the Nile country between 1825-27, so that it is a mine of information about the pharaonic monuments in general and about Egypt during those years. A clear and finely written preface by the Editor, Dr. J. Thompson introduces the reader to the beautifully printed text and images; it should be noted that many of the latter were made with a camera lucida and count among the first taken with such a system. One should not be afraid by its bulky aspect: you will read from start to end without boring. Part I, about a typical day at a construction site for blast furnaces, is the most interesting. Later chapters lapse into technical details and numbers. An improved life style with more conveniences resulted from the years of hard labor, in spite of the sacrifice of individuals resulting from lack of safety standards and lack of trained overseers. The Communists, by sacrificing their people, brought Russia from a peasant society into an industrial one within a matter of years. It’s evident, but not declared in this book, that Germany could have taken Russia in WWII if the Czars had still been in control. Scott is critical of the lack of administrative skills of the Communist management but has only praise for workers who were inspired by a chance at a better life. They believed the Communist propaganda.

Unlike many foreign radicals who praised the Soviet Union from the comfort of their own democratic societies, Scott lived, and more importantly, worked at the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works. He experienced the early enthusiasm of the drive to industrialize and modernize backward Soviet Russia. He also does an excellent job of detailing the effects of the paranoia and purges that came along with economic achievements. This is not a sugar-coated fairy tale about a workers' paradise, even if he was clearly sympathetic to the aims of the process. A realistic account told by an honest participant who had the critical skills to present a balanced if ultimately, negative assessment of Stalin's Russia.

I had to read this for a Stalinism class and probably would not have read it otherwise, but I feel like it does give an important perspective on Stalin's regime and this particular era. Scott gives a lot of information about dates, outputs, and wages; many times I felt like it was over much for getting a simple point across. Yet the stories and examples he used really gave an even handed view upon society in Russia during this time. I'm sure historians love the dates and specific tables of wages, but it wasn't the highlight for me.

This is probably the strangest book I have ever read. John Scott, a dewy eyed communist, goes to Soviet Russia to help build the workers paradise. One can assume its all true because of the horrible things he writes about so matter of factly." ... The smart ones kept a few crusts of bread squirreled away, for the days when the state store had none. They were schooled in past famines"Regarding the secret police..." The arrests always came at night. After a few weeks they would notify the accused's family of his whereabouts, and to bring some freshclothes. THe appearance of his wife and children was meant to remind him that he HAD a family, and " oh by the way ARE you SURE you dont know anyone else with anti-Soviets views? Any Wreckers?" AAAAhhhhh!This is all crazy stuff. You can only read a few pages at a time and then put the book down. We have it so good here.

Fascinating insight into this place and time.

I'd recommend this for anyone interested in Russian, European, or American history. It's extremely informative and fun to read!

I had a paper copy years ago which I loaned out and lost. The Kindle version is a fine replacement. The book itself is a classic in Soviet history. While not written for the general public today, a student interested in economic or Soviet history would find this book of interest.

The first few chapters were a bit slow, but the content is solid and progression seemed natural. By chapter 8 the content kept me engaged and turning to the next page. I had learned must of the content before chapter 14 from cutting my teeth on broken systems. I recall replacing a 9600 baud modem with a 56k baud modem and finding that the clock ran slow if the modem was set to use more than 36k baud--tracked the problem to a 3rd parties ISR. I really appreciate the state charts for objects like the semaphores and queues. The chapters on modularizing (14) and synchronization (15) were very valuable for me, and breaking down the communication using design patterns is much appreciated.

I just recently started my career in Embedded Software and decided to pick up a few books. I've gone through chapters 1-5 thus far with great interest and am really enjoying the structured, beginner-like quality it entails. We use VxWorks at work and although most of our application and kernel tasking has been implemented it still is an awesome read!

The explanations and descriptions seem simple, but I think that's only because they ARE well done.This book can be equally useful for both novice and intermediate programmers. Experts in RTOS's may want something a little less instructive and more like a "reference" manual, but don't be fooled by that statement and over-estimate your skills. If you can't completely describe semiphore types, deadlock breaking strategies and timing wheels, you may still need this book.

I bought the book due to my class but it is a great read and a great source of information!

I bought this for review before going on job interviews. For me it was perfect. I had taken a course in OS college and have been working on embedded systems for 13 years. You kind of keep some of this for granted if you are not directly in charge of maintaining the OS. As the name says it only gives concepts so it doesn't go into any great detail about a particular OS. The book has 15 pages on semaphores (15 pages sounds like a lot, but the text is not dense ). You are not going to be an expert on semaphores but you will get the basic "concepts" of them.

The book walks you through all the steps of embedded systems development before going into the details of RTOS, which is the main focus of the book. It is a great book for the intended readers of the book, as stated up front in the book.
